Acadia National Park – The Jewel of the North East!

The only national park in the northeast, Acadia is every bit the picture post-card. Nestled on Mt. Desert island along the Maine coastline adjoining the glorious North Atlantic ocean, Acadia is best visited between the months of April (summer green) and October (rusty fall colors).

It’s a comfortable 4.5 hour drive from Boston along the eastern coastline cruising on US 1, through the quaint towns of Portsmouth, Portland and Bangor making it a perfect weekend getaway. Don’t miss the open fields and blue skies.

Consider airbnb’ing a rustic wooden cabin near some of fishing docks and kayaking schools.

If you are seeking wilderness, a short walk to the bay, and true simple living, this is exactly what you will find here.

Acadia offers spectacular hiking trails along the mountainous coastline, open beaches, blowholes, and caves where otters come visit.

An authentic lobster fishing town for generations, Bar Harbor’s steamed butter lobster is a must have. The town has numerous colorful alleyways, warm local cafes and quirky businesses which thrive with the many tourists Acadia attracts each year.

Yep, i ate way too many onion rings along with the lobster.

IMG_2253With numerous bays and islands, kayaking and canoeing with ocean seals in the calm waters is an absolute joy. Make sure to take an instructor with you if it’s your first time to find your way back from the islands.

IMG_2234If you are a little more adventurous and dig seclusion, camping out on isolated state islands should be on your itinerary. If you are looking for more exclusivity, options of private islands are absolutely available. Make sure to book camping spots and islands well before the peak season begins around Memorial day.

Acadia national park is a true New England beauty and gives you a sneak peak into the lives of fishing communities along the North Atlantic ocean. Consider a visit sometime if you find yourself in this region!
